African music stars Sarkodie and Davido led several followers of Ghana captain Andre Ayew to empathise with the footballer’s apology.

Ayew pleaded with Ghanaians for the Black Stars’ disappointing campaign at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The team recorded a defeat and two losses to finish third and bowed out of the group stage.

Ayew particularly was at the centre of criticism as he struggled to impact the game anytime he played.

However, the Le Havre forward in a video shared on his Instagram account apologised and promised to bounce back.

The Black Stars captain finally rendered an unqualified apology on Tuesday evening, where he took responsibility for the team’s elimination.

“I would like to apologise for the results of the AFCON that we just exited. We should have done better. We should have gotten better results too,” Ayew said in a video posted on Instagram.

“As the captain of the squad, I take full responsibility for what happened on the pitch for the playing body.”

Some renowned personalities were quick to stand in solidarity and share the pain of the former Marseille player

“Nothing spoil baba!”, wrote Davido in a bid to encourage the 34-year-old who responded “My brother, we keep going.”

Sarkodie added his voice to the empathisers stating “You love your country and we love and appreciate you king. We can be in our feelings because of how attached we are when we see the flag but trust me we are grateful for your efforts.” to motivate his countryman.

Ayew again appreciated the rapper’s effort to lift his spirit saying, “Sarkodie it’s understandable, thanks for the support.”

The Black Stars lost their opening game 2-1 to Cape Verde and settled for 2-2 draws against Egypt and Mozambique. The last game against the Mambas could have seen the four-time champions sail through with a win. However, after taking a 2-0 lead, they were punished through costly errors.

Ayew, who conceded a penalty under a handball eventually achieved a personal feat. He equalled the long-standing record as the layer with the most AFCON appearances now shared with Rigobert Song.

Meanwhile, Ayew returned to club football action and scored twice to help his team Le Havre achieve a 3-3 draw against Lorient.
