Asante Kotoko communications director David Obeng Nyarko has denied reports claiming some fans have sacked head coach Mariano Barreto from training.

According to reports, Barreto had been prevented from leading the team’s training at Adako Jachie on Wednesday morning by the fans who are angry about the 1-0 loss to Hearts of Oak in Accra last Sunday.

The defeat has left Kotoko three points behind Hearts of Oak and with head to head being used, the Phobians need six points from the remaining three games to be crowned champions for the first time in 12 years.

Nyarko stated on Twitter that the reports are false and urged the club’s supporters to disregard it.

He wrote: “Kindly disregard misleading reports indicating that our head coach Mariano Barreto has been sacked from training. Coach Barreto is still at post discharging his duties accordingly and he has the full support of management.”

“We are still determined in our strive toward competing keenly for the league title as we are still in contention. Let’s stay focused,” he added.
