Black Stars coach Chris Hughton has admitted that his team is facing a challenging period following back-to-back defeats in the October international window.

The Black Stars were humbled by the United States, losing 4-0 in an international friendly in Tennessee, which came on the heels of a 2-0 defeat against Mexico three days earlier.

This difficult run of results means that Ghana failed to score a single goal during the October international window while conceding a total of six goals. The lack of goals was particularly concerning, as Ghana managed to register zero shots on target in the game against Mexico and just two in the match against the USA.

Hughton acknowledged the challenges faced by the team, saying, “We are all going through a difficult period with regards to the performances that can see us scoring goals to win games; that has been difficult.” However, he also highlighted some positive aspects, such as the team’s qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and topping their qualifying group.

The upcoming AFCON tournament in January poses a tough challenge, and Hughton emphasised the need for further development and improvement. He expressed his commitment to working hard to select the right squad and tactics to ensure the team’s success in the upcoming matches.

Black Stars will be back in action in November with crucial matches against Madagascar and Comoros as they begin their campaign in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
