Ghanaian politician Haruna Iddrisu has expressed the challenges of managing  Karela United without the support of a sponsor.

Iddrisu, who took over the Premier League club in December 2022, has been the sole financial backer and acknowledges that this undertaking is financially demanding. In a determined effort to ease the financial burden, he is actively seeking potential sponsors.

Iddrisu shared insights into his sponsorship quest during the GPL Xpress show, saying, “Believe me, I’m working very hard to secure sponsorship for Karela. It was not my wish to take the club from Ayinase to Tamale.”

Iddrisu plans to approach various institutions that may be interested in supporting Karela United. He intends to reach out to entities such as Ghana Gas, a mining company in the Upper East region (specifically in Bolgatanga), and other potential sponsors.

In response to suggestions that the club’s temporary move to Tamale might imply a relocation following his acquisition, Iddrisu clarified the situation.

He pointed out that the decision to move was due to Ayinase, which had been the club’s home since their establishment, not meeting the standards required by the Club Licensing Department. Although they have temporarily relocated to Tamale, Iddrisu assures fans that the club’s commitment is to return closer to their supporters.

Iddrisu highlighted the club’s intentions: “We are looking at Elmina and Axim along the line. Tamale is our first stadium, and Elmina is our second, so we are not out of that region yet.”

However, he acknowledged the potential rivalry with RTU may pose challenges moving forward.
