Asante Kotoko maintained a healthy advantage at the summit of the Ghana Premier League after drawing goalless with Bechem United on Tuesday.

It was a game of two halves with Bechem dominating and creating the best chances in the first period.

Emmanuel Avornyo came close to opening the scoring with a well-struck volley but Danlad Ibrahim pulled off a spectacular save.

The 20-year-old forward was denied again by Danlad who enjoyed an excellent game at the Nana Gyeabour Park.

Kotoko’s best chance of the half fell to Samuel Boateng who shot feebly at goal from inside the box.

Before that, Kotoko had a penalty shout ignored when Mfeuge was brought down in the box.

The major talking point from the half, however, was Samuel Osei Kuffour’s deliberate stamp on Mbella Etouga. The defender escaped a red card as the incident happened at the blind side of the referee. He may however face a retrospective ban.

After the break, Kotoko were better. Etouga attempted the spectacular from close range but did not trouble Bechem’s goalkeeper.

Boateng struck the woodwork with a header from the six-yard box before an unmarked Mfeuge blasted over the bar.

The point leaves Kotoko eight points ahead of Aduana Stars who climbed to second after beating King Faisal 1-0 on Sunday.

Bechem United have dropped to fourth.
