Ghana on Thursday secured qualification to next year’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with a dramatic win against the Central African Republic in the final round of qualifiers.

Ghana came from behind to claim a 2-1 victory over their opponents thanks to a stunning freekick and late-game heroics at the Baba Yara Stadium.

The match got off to an intense start, with Louis Moufata of the Central African Republic opening the scoring in the 25th minute. However, Ghana’s hopes were reignited just before halftime when Mohammed Kudus showcased his skill and precision by shooting a beautiful freekick into the net, equalising in the 43rd minute.

As the clock ticked away and tensions mounted, both teams made crucial substitutions. Nuamah was brought on for Osman Bukari, adding fresh energy to the squad, while Semenyo entered the fray, aiming to make an impact.

The defining moment of the match occurred in the 88th minute when Semenyo, with a burst of speed and an impeccable assist, set up Nuamah, who calmly slotted the ball into the net setting the tone for an incredible atmosphere of celebration as the scoreline shifted in Ghana’s favour.

Ghana’s hard-fought victory not only sealed their place in the 2023 AFCON but also secured their position as the leaders of Group E with an impressive 12 points. Angola, who drew goalless with Madagascar in their concurrent match, also clinched qualification with eight points.

Ghana will now eagerly anticipate the forthcoming tournament where they will join the continent’s finest teams in a quest for glory next year in Ivory Coast.
