Ghana pulls out of Caf inter-club competitions

A decision has been reached between Ghanaian clubs and the Normalisation Committee for no continental representation for 2019, 3news.com has gathered. The decision was reached on Friday when the Committee, which oversees all football activities, met the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA). The decision implies that Ghana will not send clubs for the 2018/2019 CAF Champions League and the 2018/2019 Confederation Cup. All domestic competitive football activities were suspended in June after investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas released an exposé on corruption in Ghana football. The Ghana Football Association (GFA) and its president, Kwesi Nyantakyi, were hardly hit, leading to the latter’s resignation not only from the FA but from the Confederation of African Football and FIFA. Though the Ghana Premier League and the Division One League were suspended, Ghanaian clubs and national teams were allowed to compete at international levels. Aduana Stars and Asante Kotoko represented Ghana in the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup respectively before the exposé. Aduana Stars, who won the 2016/2018 League, dropped to the Confederation Cup but failed to make it beyond the group stage. The Normalisation Committee is expected to finish its work by March, 2019 – by which time it has promised to bring back domestic football action.
