Ghana have been out of the Top 50 for the past one year[/caption] Ghana moved up from the 52nd to the 51st position on the latest FIFA ranking released on Thursday. Ghana’s total point accumulation increased to 657. Ghana lie just behind Nigeria who dropped to the milestone position despite their good run in the just-ended 2018 World Cup qualifiers. Africa’s ranking has seen a tremendous achievement for Senegal, who reach their highest ever ranking of 23rd and become the continent’s top-ranked side going into the 2018 FIFA World Cup draw. Senegal are one of the four African sides to make a return to the world cup. The Teranga Lions are returning after 16 years. Fellow returnees Tunisia move second on the continent’s ranking with Egypt, DR Congo and Morocco – in that order – completing the Top 5. Ghana are eighth in Africa. Germany remain at the summit of the ranking with Brazil, Portugal, Argentina and Belgium all maintaining their positions as the world’s top-ranked sides, in that order. The next ranking to be released on December 21, 2017 will see the effect of this month’s final qualifiers especially the shock failure of Italy to make it to the global showpiece for the first time in 60 years.
