Asante Kotoko beat AshantiGold 1-0 in the Ashanti derby at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium on Sunday thanks to Fabio Gama’s great header in the first half.

The Brazilian who scored in the MTN FA Cup round of 64 victory over BYF Academy in midweek scored the decisive goal in the 23rd minute.

Gama left unmarked in the box headed home a superb cross delivered by left-back Patrick Asmah.

The Miners tried but could not alter the scoreline as the Porcupine Warriors secured the win to end their winless run.

Meanwhile, Ashgold have now suffered three straight defeats.

Kotoko are currently top of the table and one point above Hearts of Oak who play Great Olympics at 6pm today.

Also on Sunday afternoon, a brace by Abdul Basit and goals from Bright Amponsah, Kofi Owusu and Paul Atta Agyei ensured Berekum Chelsea thumped King Faisal 5-0 at the Golden City Park. The result leaves Alhaji Grusah’s team second from the bottom.

In Sogakope, Liberty Professionals earned a comeback 3-2 win against WAFA to move out of the relegation zone.

Dreams, Eleven Wonders and Ebusua Dwarfs all secured home wins.
