Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez believes his team should have gotten more from their defeat to Barcelona due to how the performed on Sunday night.

The Catalan side dominated Real Madrid in many aspects of Sunday’s El Classico, despite losing 3-2 at the Santiago Bernabeu to the Meringes.

Over the course of five days, Barcelona experienced a series of setbacks, including elimination from the UEFA Champions League and a significant defeat in the La Liga title race, leaving them 11 points behind the league leaders.

Barcelona held the lead twice during the game but struggled to maintain it for prolonged periods. Once again, Jude Bellingham, who had previously inflicted defeat on them in the dying minutes of the reverse fixture in Catalonia, repeated his feat.

Speaking to the press in a post-match interview about Barcelona’s defeat to Real Madrid in El Classico, Xavi expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance, indicating Barca’s young talents as crucial to the future era at the Catalan club.

“We were the best team tonight and we deserved to win. The future with those young talents will be bright for Barça. I don’t need to say anything about the referee, everyone has seen it already. if I speak they may sanction me, the images are there”, he said.

With 11 points now separating Barca from Madrid, the team now looks far from winning any titles this season. However, they will attempt to continue chasing until the end of the season as they face right-placed Valencia on Monday, April 29, 2024.
