Brahim Díaz has chosen to formalise the process of acquiring Moroccan nationality, suggesting a potential inclination toward joining the Atlas Lions.

The 24-year-old, who has been unsuccessful in his pursuit of representing Spain, is now exploring the possibility of joining the Moroccan national team.

Despite having played for Spain at various levels, Díaz, with dual citizenship, is eligible to switch allegiance to Morocco through his grandmother’s Moroccan heritage.

FIFA regulations permit a player with dual nationality to change representation if specific conditions are met, including a limited number of competitive senior games played before the age of 21 and a three-year gap since the player’s last senior appearance for their previous national team.

The 24-year-old is linked through his grandmother, who was born in Morocco, raising the possibility of dual nationality. Despite having represented Spain at all levels, Diaz has dual citizenship and is eligible to represent Morocco.

According to multiple sources, an official announcement is expected in the next few weeks. The young player has reached his best potential in the current season with Real Madrid, where he is a vital piece within the club.

Morocco’s efforts to bring Díaz into their squad date back to 2018 when he declined their proposal to represent them in the World Cup. The upcoming announcement will mark a significant development in Díaz’s international career, offering him a new chapter with the Moroccan national team.

Brahim Diaz however had aims of representing Spain, but after being constantly overlooked by Spain’s coaches in recent years, he has now decided to make his switch to Morocco.
