Former Asante Kotoko coach Maxwell Konadu believes it is wrong to attribute the current struggles of the club to Prosper Narteh Ogum, the current manager of the team.

Kotoko has only one point from its last six Ghana Premier League matches, having won a single game in all eighth of their second-round fixtures of the competition.

Their latest setback was inflicted by Nsoatreman on Thursday night at the Baba Yara Stadium. The Nsoatre-based club now headed by Konadu stunned the Porcupine Warriors once more picking maximum points with a 2-1 victory.

Pressure intensified on both the technical team and the playing body as fans hooted at them and demanded the dismissal of coach Prosper Ogum.

However, Maxwell Konadu, reacting to this after the game, believes it is not the right decision at the moment.

“I don’t believe it is a coaching issue; when the players play, it is clear that they are afraid.

“The demands placed on the players appear to put them under additional strain; they lack the character required to play as a Kotoko player, which I believe is their issue.”

Maxwell continued, saying that in order to prevent things from getting out of control, the players now need the support of the spectators.

“This is the critical moment for the players to have the support of the media and fans. Much pressure from these stakeholders will not help matters; instead, fans should support the technical team and playing body in order to turn things around.”

“The players are not bad; none of them will be a benchwarmer at any GPL club, but they appear to panic when playing.”

Maxwell Konadu concluded by strongly believing that Kotoko’s players are not all that bad and can play for any GPL team.

“The players are not bad, none of them will be a benchwarmer at any GPL club, but they appear to panic when playing.”

In their next GPL match, Kotoko will pay a trip to Dawu to take on Dreams FC.
