Morocco’s U-20 women’s football team, the Atlas Lionesses, has become the first Arab team to secure qualification for the U-20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia which comes off later this year.

Despite facing a 1-0 defeat at the Abebe Bikila Stadium in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on Sunday, the Moroccan team’s remarkable journey to the World Cup was sealed by their earlier 2-0 victory over Ethiopia in the first leg at El Abdi Stadium in El Jadida.

This qualification marks another significant milestone in the rapid rise of Morocco’s women’s soccer, with notable achievements such as the AS FAR women’s team winning the African Champions League and the Atlas Lionesses’ participation in the 2023 World Cup and the 2022 WAFCON final.

Additionally, the U17 women’s team represented Morocco in the World Cup in India.

The success of the U-20 women’s national team reflects the efficacy of the Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF)’s strategic initiatives, aligning with King Mohammed VI’s ambitious vision for the growth and development of women’s football in the country.

The FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup is scheduled to take place in Colombia from August 31 to September 22.
