The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is making strides to convince Manchester United’s rising star, Kobbie Mainoo, to switch allegiances from England to his parents’ homeland, Ghana.

Mainoo, an 18-year-old midfielder, has been turning heads with his exceptional performances for Manchester United.

His recent stoppage-time winner against Wolverhampton Wanderers showcased his undeniable talent and earned him massive praise.

Despite representing England at various age levels, Mainoo’s ties to Ghana, where he frequently visits during breaks, have caught the attention of the Ghana FA. Randy Abbey, a member of the executive council of the Association, expressed their interest in working with Mainoo.

“The association would love to work with him and many like him at home and abroad.”

Ghana are believed to be embarking on a rebuilding agenda for the senior national team after a disappointing Africa Cup of Nations campaign. To this end, Mainoo’s potential switch could bolster the team’s prospects.

Mainoo’s dream moment came with his 97th-minute winner at Molineux, displaying his skill by maneuvering past defenders and slotting the ball into the far corner. His decisive striker was what earned Manchester United all three points with a dramatic 4-3  victory.

Reflecting on his journey, Mainoo stated, “To start playing in the Premier League for my boyhood club has been amazing.”

The youngster has further earned praise from his teammate Rasmus Hojlund and club legend Rio Ferdinard. The latter described him as having similar abilities as AC Milan great Clarence Sedorf.
