Paris St-Germain manager Luis Enrique has expressed regret over the team’s home defeat to Barcelona in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals.

The former Barcelona manager led the French champions against his former club in a thrilling encounter characterised by goals at the Parc des Princes.

Despite a spirited performance, the Spanish giants prevailed with a 3-2 win over the home side.

Speaking in the post-match interview, Enrique expressed his disappointment in the result yet is hopeful that his team will bounce back at the Olympic Stadium in Spain in the second-leg, in order to reach the last four of Europe’s premium club competition.

“It was a pity. Really a pity because I think we started the match properly and good but after we conceded the goal it got disappointing. The second half started really great for us scoring two goals over there but suddenly we suffered the second goal and the last goal. At 2-2 I think we created some chances to score I think it’s a pity but we are in the spirit to go to Barcelona and to win”, he said.

Barcelona demonstrated great promise and resilience in their match against PSG, although the Parisians also had their moments and could have gained an advantage heading into the second leg.

PSG remains very much in contention against Barcelona but will however, need to perform at their peak if they hope to advance, especially considering Barcelona’s home advantage in the second leg.

The return fixture is set for Tuesday, April 16, and promises to provide fans worldwide with captivating entertainment, regardless of the eventual outcome.
