Thomas Partey has admitted that his overall fitness and availability for regular selection will play a role in determining his future at Arsenal.

The Black Stars midfielder has faced injury setbacks sidelining him for over seven months.

This has hindered him from playing a crucial role in the Gunners campaign, unlike last season.

Thankfully, he earned his first start since August 2023 as Arsenal secured a 2-0 victory over Luton Town on Wednesday night.

Speaking after the game, the 30-year-old expressed his desire to stay at the club.

“This is where I choose to play, I’m really happy every time I’m on the field. I know a lot of speculations have been going on, but for me, I’m really happy to be here and to continue playing for this club,” he told football.london.

Thomas Partey will have just 12 months left on his contract by the end of the season and speculations keep swirling about his imminent departure from the London club.

However, he remains hopeful of staying longer at a club he claims to be ‘really happy’ to play for.

According to him, his availability until the end of the season will be crucial in determining his future.

“Well, I still have to the end of the season, I think. I have to do my best and try to perform at the highest level and I think the most important is to be available every time.”

Unlike the current season, Thomas Partey enjoyed a stellar campaign last season where he made 33 appearances scoring three goals. His performance propelled  Arsenal to a second-place finish missing the title narrowly to Manchester City.

Aside from club career, the injury setbacks have also seen the former Atletico Madrid man miss crucial matches for the Ghana national team.

He missed the team’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Madagascar and Comoros in November 2023 and failed to make the final squad for the 2023  Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast. His absence was particularly felt in those assignments as Ghana lost to Comoros and failed to win a single game at the AFCON. As a result, they bowed out from the competition for the second consecutive time – marking the worst-ever record in the competition.
