Hearts of Oak were off to an impressive start in the second round of the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season grabbing a 3-0 win over Real Tamale United at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Phobians may have taken the outcome as a positive one considering the fact that it was new coach Aboubakar Ouattara’s first game in charge.

However, the emphatic victory was not the focal point of the headlines. The amazing skillset of brace hero Hamza Issah has reechoed the need to pay attention to another exciting talent.

21-year-old Hamza Issah fired his side to the much-needed win with two great strikes in the space of 21 minutes in the first half. This has now placed him in pole position to compete for the top scorer award.

Issah now lies in third place on the top scorers’ chart in the league, a goal behind Bechem United’s Augustine Okrah and Aduana’s Isaac Mintah who have nine goals apiece in the title race after Gameweek 18.

The young talent emerging from the Hearts of Oak youth team, Auroras, appears on a historic journey reminiscent of other notable graduates. His goal-scoring prowess is evokes memories of past greats such as Mahatma Otoo and Ishmael Addo, both of whom achieved remarkable success with the team after rising through the ranks of the youth side.

His dynamic movement on the field, coupled with his ability to create space through exceptional pace and technical skill, is set to be invaluable for Hearts of Oak. The Phobians, currently positioned in 9th place, will undoubtedly benefit from his contributions this season.

With a 0.53 goal-per-game ratio in the league this season, Hamza Issah will look to emulate the great Ismael Addo and write his name in the top scorer record books with 16 games remaining to the end of the season.

Benjamin Yorke, Salifu Ibrahim and Linda Mtange all managed 4 goals each in the previous campaign, and Hamza Issah has already doubled their figures this season.

Devoid of injuries, with guidance and consistency in attack, Hearts of Oak stand a chance of turning the tides around this season with not just a possible top-four finish on the cards, but another league title in their sights despite the odds.
