In a bid to gain more playing time and revive his season, Edmund Addo has completed a loan transfer to Radnicki Nis.

The 23-year-old’s move is set to last until the end of the season when he will return to Red Star Belgrade.

Addo’s initial struggle for game time in the Serbian top flight led to his decision to pursue a loan move to Radnicki Nis. He is expected to help them overturn their challenges as they sit second-bottom on the table.

The midfielder’s lack of activity at Red Star cost him a spot in Ghana’s squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Now, with the prospect of more game time at Radnicki Nis, Addo is eager to contribute to the team’s efforts to turn their season around.

Radnicki Nis officially announced the capture of the Ghanaian midfielder, stating, ”Edmund Addo arrived in Niš and is training individually at the club, expecting the return of the rest of the team and the expert staff from the preparations from Turkey.

”Addo has recovered and has been in the training process for some time now, working according to the program prescribed by the expert staff, so that he can fit in to the rhythm of his new teammates as soon as possible.

”Ghana’s senior national team player arrived in Radnicki on loan from Red Star and plays the position of last and central midfielder.”

Edmund Addo’s call-up criticised

Edmund Addo’s call-up history has come under scrutiny, with critics pointing out his consistent inclusion in the national team despite limited playing time.

However, recent developments saw him excluded from Ghana’s 2023 AFCON squad, indicating a shift in the selection strategy.

Former Black Stars coach Chris Hughton, who previously favoured Addo, is no longer in charge, having been dismissed by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) following Ghana’s disappointing campaign in the tournament.

The national team opted for fresh faces for the AFCON. Kotoko’s Richmond Lamptey and Anderlecht’s Majeed Ashimeru earned places in the squad, signaling a change in the team’s direction.
