Former Manchester United centre-back Rio Ferdinand has stirred speculation by asserting that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta would “100 per cent” leave the Gunners for Manchester United if offered the managerial position at Old Trafford.

Ferdinand, known for his outspoken views, has been commenting on the uncertain future of United’s current manager, Erik ten Hag, suggesting that the Dutchman may be replaced in the summer. With Ten Hag’s contract running until summer 2025, Ferdinand believes that the recent arrival of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS could trigger changes in the coaching staff.

Despite Arteta’s commitment to the Arsenal project and their challenge for the Premier League title, the Manchester United legend expressed his belief that Arteta would accept an offer from the Red Devils.

In a discussion on his FIVE YouTube channel, he stated, “Arteta would leave Arsenal to join Man United, 100 per cent.”

Ferdinand laid out a hypothetical scenario where United, in a “wild dream,” could consider the Arsenal boss if Ten Hag were to leave. He suggested that Arteta, in such a situation, might inform his Arsenal players about his departure.

The Spaniard’s contract with Arsenal extends until next year, and he has previously dismissed links to other managerial vacancies, including Barcelona.

As a former player for Arsenal, Arteta has experienced mixed results against Manchester United. However, as a manager, he has led the Gunners to notable successes against Ferdinand’s former club.

Currently, Arsenal sit in third place in the Premier League, only two points behind the leaders, Liverpool, and is determined to contend for the title after narrowly missing out last season.
