Accra Lions FC achieved a remarkable feat by defeating Asante Kotoko SC 3-2 in an exciting Ghana Premier League match at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

This victory marked the Lions’ second away win of the season and their first triumph over Kotoko in six attempts.

Coming off a disappointing loss to Karela United, Kotoko were expected to bounce back strongly, especially against a team that had struggled away from home. However, the Lions’ tactics proved effective.

The game got off to a thrilling start, with the Lions taking the lead within ten minutes through a swift counter-attack. Daniel Awuni found Blessing Dankwah on the left flank, who expertly controlled the pass and fired past the Kotoko goalkeeper.

Kotoko responded 20 minutes later through Kalo Ouattara, who showed great skill in controlling an Andrews Appau cross before unleashing a powerful left-footed shot. The score was tied at 1-1 heading into halftime.

The Lions started the second half just as strongly as they began the first, with a defence-splitting pass from Seidu Saday finding Blessing Dankwah, who restored the lead for the visitors in the 49th minute.

As Kotoko pushed for an equaliser, the Lions maintained their composure and caught their opponents off guard with a swift counter-attack. Second-half substitute Bernard Kesse found Amponsah, who unleashed a powerful strike to beat Moise Pouaty and extend the Lions’ lead.

Although Bernard Somuah grabbed a late consolation goal for Kotoko, it was too little, too late.

Accra Lions held on for a memorable 3-2 victory, which lifted them clear of the relegation zone and left Kotoko six points adrift of the top spot.
