Black Satellites captain Kuffour Asamoah has promised to lead the team to victory in the male football competition at the 2023 African Games.

As hosts, the Ghana U-20 side will commence their campaign against Congo on Friday, March 8, 2024, in a challenging group that includes the Gambia and Benin.

Asamoah, who plies his trade with Ghanaian side Berekum Chelsea, emphasised the team’s eagerness to proudly represent their nation and expressed gratitude for the opportunity.

Speaking ahead of the crucial match, he stated, “Many people outside are waiting for this opportunity and we’ve been selected, we are much grateful for this opportunity,” Baffour said.

“We are going to deliver and bring out the best in us. We are going for the trophy. We are going for the trophy.”

The last time Ghana secured gold in the male football competition of the African Games was in 2011 in Maputo, and with a renewed sense of purpose, the Black Satellites are determined to bring the coveted trophy home.

Asamoah made it clear that every player selected for the opening game against Congo would give their all, acknowledging the anticipation from the public.

In response to concerns about potential pressure playing in front of their home fans, Black Satellites coach Desmond Ofei dismissed such notions

.

“No, there is no pressure. We are fully prepared. We have a good squad. Our boys are ready and hungry. We don’t feel any pressure; not at all.”

The team’s focus has been on rigorous preparation in anticipation of the challenges that lie ahead.
