Former Chelsea and Black Stars midfielder Michael Essien says patience is what football fans need in these very trying times, following fallbacks from investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ exposé. In June 2018, Anas released the investigative piece, which implicated then President of the Ghana Football Association, Kwesi Nyantakyi, referees and some officials of the now dissolved Ghana Football Association (GFA). The dissolution of the GFA has slowed down football and other sporting activities in the country. Speaking in an interview with TV3’s Yaw Ofosu Larbi, Michael Essien said there is the need for Ghana to put the issue of the GFA behind and focus on developing players to get Ghana back on the football map. He added that football fans need to be patient, and let the system work in order to get a cleaner system to run activities of football and other sporting activities. “I’m not really looking towards what’s happening with the FA, more importantly, the players are very important; so the nation should support the players and hopefully, Ghana will come back to the top.” He added: “I think these young boys always want to do well in the country, hopefully, things will change.” The former Ghanaian midfielder is back in the country to partner Rexona for a talent search programme that involves his former club Chelsea team. According to Essien, it is great for him to be giving back to society. “It’s always good to come home and help the young ones.
