Kwesi Nyantakyi has been barred from any involvement with football[/caption] The Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has completed investigations into alleged fraud by former Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kwesi Nyantakyi, government has said. Mr Nyantakyi was reported to the Directorate by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in May for defrauding by false pretences by the use of the name of the president, his vice, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, and other government officials in a deal. This came to light following an investigative documentary by journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas. The documentary was publicly screened at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) – and subsequently nationwide – from Wednesday, June 6. The Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) on Wednesday concluded its probe via the Adjudicatory Chamber of the Independent Ethics Committee and banned the renowned Ghanaian football administrator for life. He was also fined the Swiss Franc equivalent of $500,000.

Mr Nyantakyi has already hinted of appealing the decision of FIFA. Ghana’s largest opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), questioned the willingness of government to probe the matter as it began its before FIFA’s. NDC said President Akufo-Addo must subject himself to “credible” investigations and called on the CID to apprise Ghanaians of the status of its investigations. A statement issued by the Ministry of Information said the CID investigations have concluded “and we expect that a docket will soon be presented to the Attorney General and Minister of Justice for advice”. It is unclear what advice Gloria Afua Akuffo will give for the next line of action. By Emmanuel Kwame Amoh|3news.com|Ghana ]]>
