Chelsea have announced the departure of Gabonese striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, indicating that he has joined French Ligue 1 side Olympique Marseille

The 34-year-old forward arrived at Stamford Bridge last summer from Barcelona and went on to make 21 appearances in all competitions for the Blues scoring just three goals for the English side.

All his Chelsea goals came in October in the span of ten days. Aubameyang scored against Crystal Palace in the Premier League and against AC Milan in back-to-back Champions League group stage matches.

Despite a promising start to life at the club, the departure of Thomas Tuchel affected the player’s life in London as he fell beneath the pecking order following the arrival of former Brighton and Hove Albion boss Graham Potter.

The former Arsenal man barely played regularly following the English manager’s usual preference for wingers and attacking midfielders over Aubameyang to lead the lines.

The season ended disastrously for Chelsea as they settled for a 12th-place finish with a terrible goal-scoring record.

After loan spells with different clubs throughout his early career with AC Milan, Olympique Marseille becomes the 34-year-old’s ninth senior club. He also played for St Ettiene before moving on to Borussia Dortmund, where he scored 141 goals in 213 matches. He was also lethal for Arsenal throughout his four-year tenure, but a series of incidents led to his captaincy loss at the club, and he joined Barcelona.
