President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, together with the Executive Committee have declared their support for Morocco’s bid to host the 2030 World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal.

Having hosted the World Cup once on African soil in South Africa, the continent’s effort to see more was prolonged when Morocco lost their initial bid to host the 2026 edition to a joint proposal by USA, Mexico, and Canada.

After making history as the first African nation to reach the semifinals of the competition in 2022, hopes have intensified as the North Africans joined hands with Spain and Portugal to seek the chance to host the tournament in 2030.

Dr Patrice Motsepe has urged the entire continent to see the bid as one for Africa.

“The unanimous decision that was taken by the CAF Executive Committee to support Morocco’s bid to host the FIFA World Cup 2030 means that the bid of Morocco is now the bid of the African Continent.

“We are now focusing on ensuring that Africa once more hosts the FIFA World Cup and are committed to working together with all Football National Associations and Confederations to make this happen,” said the CAF president.

The bid submitted by Morocco, Spain, and Portugal will face competition from Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, and Paraguay.

The winners of the hosting rights will be made known in September 2024.
