Ghana U-20 coach Karim Zito has warned Asante Kotoko not to underrate their CAF Champions League preliminary round opponent Rail Club du Kadiogo.

Kotoko will face the Burkinabe champions next month in a two-leg tie for a spot in the next round of this season’s competition.

The Porcupine Warriors have confirmed that they will travel to Ouagadougou for the first leg, which is scheduled for the weekend of September 9th-11th, with the second leg taking place in Kumasi the following weekend.

“Now there are no minnows in football and this is going to be a tough assignment for Ghana and Asante Kotoko,” Zito, a former Kotoko player, stated on Happy FM.

“Asante Kotoko played against Kadiogo during Malik Jabir’s time. They won 1-0 away and lost 1-0 at home to exit the competition. It’s not because they are from Burkina Faso, so it will be an easy game for us. So, they must start preparing now.

This week, Kotoko began pre-season training and will travel to Turkey to continue preparations. They have scheduled a friendly match with Rivers United of Nigeria, which Zito believes will benefit the Porcupine Warriors in their African campaign.

“I hope they can play them twice so that it will get the players ready for the game since it’s a high-profile friendly,” he added.

The winner of this tie will face the winner of Botswana’s Gaborone United or DR Congo’s AS Vita Club in the next round.
