Hearts of Oak coach Samuel Boadu said ‘it’s unfortunate we couldn’t get more goals’ after his side’s 1-0 win over Wydad Casablanca in Accra on Sunday.
Attacker Isaac Mensah scored from close range to give the Phobians a slim advantage in the CAF Champions League play-offs tie.
“It is unfortunate we couldn’t get more goals because we had some good chances,” Boadu said at the post-match conference.
‘We need to have more composure in front of goal, and it’s something we’re working on.”
Hearts are competing in the continent’s elite club competition for the first time since 2006 while Wydad have won the trophy and reached the semi-final twice in the last four years.
“We proved we are a good enough team to stand toe to toe with Wydad Club. They came in to try and get an away goal, but we were able to stop them,” Boadu added.
Wydad were missing several key players due to injuries, while their head coach Walid Regragui and assistant did not make the trip to Accra because they tested positive for coronavirus.
In their absence, second assistant coach Al Miskin held the fort at the Accra Sports Stadium.
He said: “This loss is not a problem for us at all because we know we can overturn the results come Sunday in Casablanca, Morocco.”
The return leg is scheduled for Sunday, October 24.
Hearts will hope for a favourable result to qualify for the group stage for the first time in 15 years.
The loser of the tie will drop into the CAF Confederation Cup.
