Ayiah captained Ghana to Silver at the 2017 U-17 Afcon[/caption] Black Starlets skipper Eric Ayiah was left out in the final shortlist of the 2017 Aiteo Caf Awards. Ayiah had been nominated for the Youth Player of the Year. However, Mali’s Salam Giddou, Senegal’s Krepin Diatta and Zambia’s Patson Daka rather made the shortlist unveiled in Accra on Monday.
South Africa’s Luther Singh also missed the shortlist. The two youngsters will not be the only ones who may be in pain for missing out as some key players also failed to make the shortlist for the flagship award. Among these players are Guinea’s Naby Keita, Nigeria’s Victor Moses and Algeria’s Yacine Brahimi. The Confederation of African Football (Caf) named Egypt’s Mohamed Salah, Senegal’s Sadio Mane and Gabon’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as the finalists for the awards, scheduled to take place in Accra on January 4, 2018. Ghana’s U-20 women’s team, Black Princesses, will also vie for the Women’s National Team of the Year. The team faces competition from Nigeria’s U-20 women’s side and South Africa’s senior side in that category.
