Ghana’s boxing gold medalist at the just-ended 2023 African Games Mohammed Amadu has shared his exhilarating experience at the Games Village, where athletes were accommodated during the event.

In an interview with Yaw Ofosu Larbi on Warm Up Plus on TV3, Amadu expressed his admiration for the infrastructure and organization at the Games Village, attributing his positive experience to the efforts of the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Despite having participated in similar events before, Amadu commended Ghana’s hosting of the African Games and highlighted the meticulous planning undertaken by the sports ministry.

Reflecting on life at the Games Village, Amadu described it as “amazing,” emphasizing the diverse culinary options available to athletes.

“This isn’t my first time, but it was my first time experiencing it in Ghana, I’m very proud of my country because we have done so well, I really thank the Sports minister, the ministries, the government because they have done so well because it is not easy to host this African Games,” he said.

“Life at the games village was very good, we lived like foreigners and we could order any food we wanted, although food there was only continental dishes, anytime I felt for local foods I just had to make a call and it was delivered,” he further stated.

Amadu’s gold medal victory in the 54kg category added to Ghana’s remarkable show in boxing claiming a total of four gold medals at the African Games. He credited his success to unwavering determination and dedicated effort, acknowledging the significance of his achievement in Ghanaian boxing history.

“In life everything you are determined to do, through your efforts and determination you’re going to achieve it and that is what did it for me. A lot of boxers couldn’t get the chance to win this gold medal, it has been since 1991 so I’m very excited I won this gold medal for Ghana,” he further added.

Looking ahead, Amadu’s focus shifts to securing qualification for the 2024 Paris Olympics, with upcoming qualifiers later this year.
