Following a meeting with President Ali Bongo Ondimba, Chelsea striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has made himself available for a comeback to Gabon’s national squad.
After failing to make an appearance owing to health issues, the 33-year-old striker announced his retirement from Les Panthers at the end of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) last year.
Aubamayeng has opted to end his international retirement and is expected to reunite with his teammates soon with an AFCON qualification slot at stake
“(I) listened to the wise words he said to me as a father talking to his son,” Aubameyang posted on Instagram, as quoted by the BBC.
“A few days ago, I had the immense honour to be received by the President of the Republic (of Gabon) Ali Bongo Ondimba,” Aubameyang’s post added.

“Following this, I, therefore, put myself at the disposal of my country and of the coach Patrice Neveu.”
Gabon presently leads Group I and may qualify if they defeat Sudan in their next match in June. Prior to his retirement, Aubamayeng was the team’s captain.
The 33-year-old will return as his country’s all-time leading scorer, with 28 goals in 68 games, and will look to add to that tally.
Meanwhile, the former Arsenal star is struggling to find form at Chelsea after leaving Barcelona last summer to join the English side.
