Ghanaian athletes showcased a mix of highs and lows on the second day of Athletics at the 2023 African Games, with notable victories and commendable performances capturing the spotlight.

Despite Benjamin Azamati’s fifth-place finish in the 100m final, the Ghanaian sprinter played a pivotal role in securing victory for Team Ghana in the 4x100m relay heats. With the best time recorded in the heats, Ghana progressed to the final, aiming to defend the gold medal won in the previous edition.

In a display of collective strength, the female 4x100m relay team also clinched victory in their heat, advancing to the final and showcasing resilience following Ghana’s absence from the podium in the 100m event.

A defining moment unfolded as Rose Amoaniwaa Yeboah successfully defended her gold medal in the women’s high jump, soaring to a remarkable height of 1.90m and solidifying her status as a heroine in the event.

Further adding to Ghana’s achievements, Alex Amankwah secured a spot in the 800m final after an impressive performance in the semifinals.

Despite missing out on a medal, William Amponsah delivered a commendable performance in the 10,000m final, finishing fifth among 19 athletes and smashing the national record with a time of 29:50.99s.

Media General’s photojournalist Clifford Owusu Peprah immortalised the key highlights of the day with his outstanding shots. The images below capture the triumphs and determination exhibited by Ghanaian athletes at the University of Ghana Legon Sports Stadium.
