Ghana’s sprinter Janet Mensah has advanced to the final of the Women’s 200m event at the 2023 African Games, raising hopes for another medal for the host nation in athletics.

Mensah exhibited a stellar performance in the first semifinal race, finishing second with a commendable time of 23.83 seconds.

Starting the race in lane 6, Mensah showcased a blistering effort, maintaining her pace throughout the race. She crossed the finish line behind Gambia’s sprinter Bass Bittaye Gina Mariam, who clocked in at 23.42 seconds.

Mensah’s impressive display comes on the heels of her crucial role in securing a bronze medal for Team Ghana in the female 4x100m relay event earlier in the competition.

With her sights set on further success, she is gearing up to compete in the finals scheduled for Friday at 16:30 GMT. Her advancement to the final adds to Ghana’s strong presence in athletics at the African Games.

Ghana has already clinched three medals in athletics, including Rose Yeboah’s gold medal in the Women’s High Jump and the silver medal secured by the Men’s 4x100m relay team.

Ghana’s total medal count stands as 49 with 10 gold, 23 silver and 16 bronze.
