Szymon Marciniak has been assigned to officiate the World Cup final between Argentina and France on Sunday.

So far in Qatar, the Polish official has taken charge of two games, both of which feature both finalists.

He officiated France’s 2-1 group-stage victory over Denmark and Argentina’s 2-1 last-16 victory over Australia.

Pawel Sokolnicki and Tomasz Listkiewicz, both officials from Poland, will work as Marciniak’s assistant referees.

The 41-year-old is the first Pole to have the honour of officiating the World Cup final after being chosen by the legendary Pierluigi Collina.

He presided over Liverpool’s Champions League victory over Villarreal in the last four earlier this year, making him the first Polish official to oversee a major European semi-final.
