President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has kept his promise to Ghana Premier League champions Medeama SC by providing them with GH¢1 million to support their continental campaign.

The President made the promise in August when the team visited him after winning the domestic title. However, the fulfilment of the promise had been delayed, which led to concerns among the team’s officials and fans.

On Thursday, December 14, Minister of Youth and Sports Mustapha Ussif presented a cheque for GH¢1 million to George Mireku Duker, the Member of Parliament for Tarkwa Nsuaem, who will pass it on to the team. The presentation took place at the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Speaking on behalf of President Akufo-Addo, Minister Ussif conveyed the government’s support for Medeama SC and wished them success in their continental campaign.

Medeama SC are currently placed third in Group D after the first round of matches. They started their campaign with a loss to Al Ahly, followed by a win over CR Belouizdad, and a draw with Yanga SC last week.

The team is set to travel to Tanzania for their next game against Yanga SC on Wednesday, December 20. They are expected to depart Ghana on Sunday.

The financial support from the government is expected to boost Medeama SC’s chances in the competition.
