Anselme Santos, an Ivorian football fan, has apologised to his wife and children after a video surfaced showing him attempting to flirt with a woman during the celebrations following Ivory Coast’s win over Senegal in the AFCON 2023 round of 16 at Charles Konan Banny Stadium.

The brief clip gained widespread attention, quickly going viral, prompting Santos to explain his actions.

He clarified that he was merely attempting to obtain the lady’s contact, but she declined, and he respected her decision.

“In the euphoria, I told [the woman in the video], ‘Give me your number.’ It wasn’t forceful, but she didn’t want to. So I didn’t insist. I would like to take this chance to apologize to my wife and my children,” Actu Foot quotes him as saying.

The short clip is one of many circulating from AFCON 2023, captivating football fans with the intense excitement and high-quality football showcased at the tournament in Ivory Coast.

As the tournament advances to the quarter-final stage, more thrilling moments are expected. The matches will be played between Friday, 02 February 2024 and Saturday, 03 February.

Three-time champions, Nigeria face Angola in the first quarter-final fixture before the DR Congo, who are in search of their third AFCON title, face a resilient Guinea in the late evening kick-off.

On Saturday, hosts Ivory Coast, still brimming with confidence, will come against a formidable Mali side who have been dominant in the competition, and then Cape Verde, one of the sensations in this event, take on South Africa.
