AFCON 2021: Aubameyang could miss Ghana game after testing positive for Covid-19

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Gabon could be without captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang when they face Ghana at the Africa Cup of Nations as the Arsenal striker has tested positive for coronavirus.

Aubameyang, his teammate Mario Lemina and assistant coach Yala Anicet all tested positive for the virus and are doubtful for Gabon’s opening game against Comoros on January 10 and the second game which is against Black Stars on January 14.

“They underwent a PCR test and are isolating in their hotel,” said Gabon coach Patrice Neveu, adding they displayed no symptoms.

They must all test negative before re-joining the team to continue preparations for the tournament which starts in Cameroon on Sunday.

Gabon enter the finals on the back of a 3-0 defeat by Burkina Faso in a friendly match in Dubai last Sunday.
