Ghanaian music lovers were treated to a night of outstanding performances at the 24th edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA), held at the Accra International Conference Centre.
The country’s top musicians took to the stage to showcase their talents and entertain fans both in person and at home.
Outstanding performers:
The night began with Gospel All-Star, led by Piesie Esther, who put on a captivating performance featuring Celestine Donkor, MOG Music, and Ohemaa Mercy. They set the tone for the evening with an impressive display of vocal talent and showmanship.
Unsung category winner DSL also stood out with a flawless performance on his first-ever VGMA stage appearance. He exuded confidence and delivered a satisfying show that was well-received by the audience.
Kwabena Kwabena, who has been off many people’s playlists lately, proved he had not lost his touch with a splendid performance on the live band. His choreographers also did a great job, making for an all-around great show.
The newly crowned Artiste of the Year, Black Sherif, gave a breathtaking performance that got everyone talking. He worked well with the live band and performed songs such as Kwaku the Traveller and Oh Paradise, a touching tribute to his late girlfriend. Sherif’s emotions were palpable.
Sarkodie, who closed the show, delivered a flawless performance of his classic songs, getting the audience on their feet and ending with his hit song Countryside. He absolutely lived up to his newly acquired nickname, ‘Landlord.’
Special mention should also go to Kidi, who made a successful comeback on his first stage performance, and Epixode, who delivered a great performance.

Unimpressive performers:
While many performers were impressed on the night, some failed to hit the mark. Lasmid, who took home the Best New Artiste award, had an awkward performance as he was out of tune with the DJ.
Rapper Medikal, who made a grand entrance in a car, appeared tired and lacked breath control.
Gyakie, who is known for her hit songs, didn’t quite meet her usual high standards, and her performance fell short of expectations.
The VGMA showcased some of Ghana’s top musical talents but also highlighted areas where some artistes could improve. Overall, it was an enjoyable and entertaining evening that left fans eagerly anticipating the next edition.
