TV3’s Berla Mundi caught up with Harvey Mason, CEO of Grammy Awards, at the Africa Nominee Brunch organized by Guba Enterprise in partnership with the Recording Academy.
Mr Mason pointed out that there is an insurgency of African music that the world cannot ignore. He noted that the Recording Academy is interested in communicating and listening to the African music community.
“There’s such importance in African music. So much creativity and art are coming from Africa. There are even many nominees this year in African music. So we want to make sure we honour them.”
Harvey Mason Jr described African music as creative, innovative and fresh. “There’s so much incredible music coming out of Africa. I’m really excited about the future of that region,” he added.
He also disclosed the possibility of an ‘Africa Grammy’, but before the Academy is open to learning from other countries to know the best way to go for that region.
Rocky Dawuni received his third Grammy nomination in the Best Global Music Performance category for his new single, Neva Bow Down, featuring Blvk H3ro. His previous nominations were for Best Reggae Album – Branches of the Same Tree, 2016 and Best Global Music Album – Voice of Bunbon, Vol. 1, 2021.
