Guinness World Record (GWR) contender for the longest distance covered by an individual on foot, Seidu Rafiwu has shared some events which almost prevented him from embarking on the record attempt.

Speaking about his challenges prior to embarking on the attempt, Rafiwu disclosed that a day before he will embark on the attempt, a borrowed motorbike which was in his possession was stolen.

As if that setback was not enough, Rafiwu’s mobile phone which was supposed to be used to track his record attempt and contained the GWR details malfunctioned after it fell down and the screen became faulty.

“A day to the record attempt, some unfortunate events happened to me. I had gone to take my friend’s motorbike for some rounds and went to park the motorbike and after climbing upstairs to our storey-building and returning, someone had come to steal the motorbike.

“The morning of the day to start the record attempt, I was holding my phone, all of a sudden it just fell down and the screen did not function anymore. It was the same phone we were going to use to track the record attempt,” Rafiwu narrated in an interview on Onua Maakye, Friday, May 3.

According to Rafiwu’s team member, Inshurat Abubakar, they quickly switched the App which was meant to track Rafiwu’s attempt on a new phone.

This, she said caused a two-hour delay in beginning their record attempt which was initially scheduled for 7 am on April 27.

Seidu Rafiwu successfully completed his record attempt for the longest distance covered by foot on Tuesday, April 30.

Rafiwu embarked on his attempt from Saturday, April 27 and completed the 383 km walk journey in 96 hours from Techiman to  Accra.

He surpassed the current walking marathon record set by America’s Jesse Casteneda in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA, on September 1976 after walking for 228.930 kilometres.
