Award-winning Nigerian film director and president of the Nollywood Ghana Chapter, Destiny Austine Omon, has asserted that Nigerians threw their weight behind Ghanaian hip-hop star Black Sherif because of the insults Shatta Wale showered on them.

The filmmaker admitted that he blogged about Black Sherif for free due to the anger he and his colleagues had towards Ghanaian self-acclaimed dancehall king Shatta Wale.

Mr. Omon made the assertion on OnuaShowbiz with Nana Kwame Gyan.

“It is Black Sherif we are talking about; his success was powered by Nigerians. Personally, I was blogging about Black Sherif for free, and do you know why? Because we were angry with Shatta Wale,” he said.

Black Sherif came after Shatta Wale stood on stage to insult our mothers and all of that and saw it that let us push Black Sherif to show Ghana that when we support you, you are good to go,” Destiny told the host, Nana Kwame Gyan.

According to the filmmaker, everybody in Nigeria started following Black Sherif just to shame Shatta Wale for calling their bluff.

However, he used the platform to call on artistes to have more collaboration, indicating that these attacks do not help the industry to grow.

Meanwhile, the host, Nana Kwame Gyan, has invited Mr. Omon to the studio next weekend for a detailed discussion of his assertions. Onua Showbiz airs every Saturday between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. on Onua 95.1 FM.

Shatta Wale insults Nigerian acts during his freedom concert

It would be recalled that the Ghanaian dancehall artiste during his “Freedom Concert” in December 2021, held at the Accra Sports Stadium, rained heavy insults on his Nigerian counterparts.

Addressing the teeming crowd that thronged the stadium, the Shatta Movement boss said, “Do you know that majority of people in the Ghana music industry are fools? They told me that I won’t be able to fill my stadium. I don’t look up to any stupid Nigeria artiste, I look up to my fans. Fuck the Nigeria.”

The Shatta Movement boss received a lot of backlash from both Ghanaian and Nigerian artistes following his outburst. Also, entertainment watchers and industry giants believed such utterances tended to derail the long-standing cohesion between musicians in both countries.
