Award-winning musician KiDi has disclosed that the rumours about his health and subsequent stroke greatly affected his family, especially his mother.

In an interview with Sika Osei, the hiplife/afro-beats artist expressed shock at the circulation of fake rumours by online bloggers which not only left him bewildered but also caused panic within his family, who were already grappling with their own difficulties amidst his health issue.

According to the ‘Not Ok’ singer, despite speaking to his mother on the day the news broke, the renowned hitmaker explained that she reached out again due to maternal concern.

KiDi revealed that his family had to contend with the repercussions of the unfounded stroke rumour because of the emotional toll it took on his mother, who constantly received distressing calls.

“My mum has really suffered…she couldn’t have her phone for two seconds without somebody calling her. A stroke give or take is a life-ending illness, so imagine what my family went through in a time like this. Even my mum whom I spoke to, the morning of the rumour had to call me again…my whole family, from every corner of the world, they were all concerned. So I asked if this person was happy within to cook up this story,” he said.

KiDi described this period as one of the most challenging moments in his life, as he never imagined someone would fabricate such a story without any evidence as a stroke is a serious and potentially life-threatening illness, the impact of the rumour on his family was profound.

He questioned the motives and happiness of the person responsible for concocting the story.

“I think usually when people do these things, probably they are orphans and don’t have families because if you think about what myself and my family have to go through with a rumor like this, it was one of the toughest moments,” he expressed.

KiDi reiterated that the individual who initiated the false report had no right to spread unverified information, especially when he himself had not disclosed the specifics of his health issue in his press release.

Earlier this year, the musician cancelled his North American tour due to undisclosed health concerns, which led to speculation about his well-being, including rumours of a stroke.

His label boss, Richie Mensah,  also dismissed these rumours as clickbait in a viral tweet which however did not stop the news from spreading like wildfire.

The artist made a return to social media in April, releasing a new single titled ‘I Lied’  while making his first public appearance at the 2023 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA).

KiDi took the opportunity to address another rumour, clarifying that he does not have any liver disease, as some had suggested based on his previous statement about his liver.

“First of all, you can see me, I do not have a stroke. It was one of the craziest things I’ve ever heard. I want to state categorically that I do not have a liver disease,” KiDi firmly stated during the interview.
