Award-winning music producer, Kaywa has said that his late mum was a solid support system for him when he wanted to enter his music-producing career.

According to him, his father had wanted him to become a lawyer so if he wasn’t in the field he is in today, he would have pursued his father’s wish.

“I’m sure it would have been obeying my father to become a lawyer,” he stated.

Since he defied his father, the man didn’t want to be involved in what he wanted to pursue. However, his mother supported his dream because she believed in his potential.

“Father would always think that ‘This is what I want you to become’ and once you didn’t go on that tangent, you’ve failed. So he was like, ‘Whatever he claims he wants to do, he should do it and let’s see’. But my mum believed in me. My mother really supported me,” he revealed.

I am very proud of myself; I’m not disappointed in all artistes that left my record label – Kaywa

The CEO of Highly Spiritual Music in an interview with Caleb Nii Boye, added that, out of the trust his mother had in him, she gave up her grocery shop which was earning her money just so he could have a place to start something.

“My mum gave me a whole shop. She had a grocery shop and was making money but one of the days, she decided that ‘I’m going to vacate the space because I believe in you’. Even me, I didn’t believe in myself like that. She was like I needed to start using the space,” he mentioned.

He continued, pointing out that some of his works were free of charge. “So we started gradually. There were times I did not have money. You need to impress artistes before they start paying you so most of the stuff I was doing was for free. Most of the bangers you’re hearing were for free.”

Still on the topic, the Ghanaian music producer indicated that there was not a time his mother didn’t come through for him. She always rallied behind him.

“Sometimes, I go to my mother and tell her I need money for power. She’ll never shake her head. She will give me the money because she believed in me and said one day I’ll make her proud. In all that, she didn’t give up. She kept pushing and we are here,” he said.

The producer, born David Kwadwo Kyei lost his mother on March 31, 2023, which also coincided with his birthday.

“Rest in perfect peace mum. You chose the day you gave birth to me to go. I wish my loved ones will post you instead of me, because you’re the reason for my existence,” Kaywa wrote.
