Evans Kwesi Boadi Boateng, popularly known as Vanilla has said his journey into the music industry was not an easy one.
The highlife and afrobeat singer Vanilla shared in an interview with Nana Ama MacBrown on Onua Showtime how he entered the music space. He revealed the fact that he was a part of TV3 Mentor which he believed was an opportunity to show his talent.
“I was a part of MENTOR RELOADED. I was Evans by then. It was not easy but I was able to make it to the finals, coming in 5th place. My aim wasn’t to win the cash prize or the car, I just wanted people to see my talent but I wasn’t getting that attention,” he stated.
According to Vanilla, he had supportive friends who were pushing his growing brand and that was how he met BullGod, his manager.

“A year after Mentor, I met BullGod. I had some friends also spreading what I did and BullGod was one of the people on the receiving end. He saw my pictures and heard my songs but we never really got time to meet in person,” he indicated.
Apparently, two years down the line was when the ‘Medicine’ singer got a second chance with BullGod.
“Two years later, he came to the studio to record a song with Pappy of 55 Fame. After the recording, they felt they needed some melodies on there so since I was the singer there at the time, I was asked to give it a try and it was a banger. After the shooting of the video, I became his signee and it’s for a period of 5 years,” he added to his earlier submission on the show.
When asked how it has been working with a professional like BullGod for two years now, Vanilla expressed with utmost content that he had learnt quite a lot from his manager.
“I have learnt to be hardcore and it’s no news looking at the person I’m working with. He has high ethical standards and that has made me really hard working. Not to say that I was lazy but, he has pushed me to a point where there is no coming back to my old self,” he commented.
