Veteran Actor, Nathaniel Banini has revealed that after leaving the film industry in Ghana, he pursued a nursing career.

Banini who has been out of the movie scenes for a long time has all these while been building a career in nursing for over 17 years.

“I didn’t become a nurse overnight; it’s been a long journey. In the US, for you to become a nurse is a big thing.  So, I switched from the arts to science,” he told Giovani Caleb on 3FM Drive.

The veteran actor said he had no prior experience or dream of becoming a nurse while in Ghana but his current profession is as a result of “travel and see” phenomenon.

“An art person like me should never think of working in a hospital but if you travel and want to be smart and find out, you will…Its all travel and see it’s not easy but you have to do what you got to do,” he noted.

While admitting that he has missed being on the screens, Banini stressed that with the exposure he has now, he would have done things differently particularly with how time is utilized during movie shoot, etc.

“Of course [I miss the screens]. Once you are a bus driver, all they need to do is to put you behind the steering and you will go. Acting is life so I do miss it,

“There are a lot of things we have learnt migrating from Ghana to this place. One of the biggest problems we have in Ghana is how to use time, you come on set and you delay because somebody is not getting it right,” Banini added.

Reflecting on his nursing career, he said he has learnt to possess the confidence to believe in himself and the tenacity to always produce the quality of tasks undertaken.

The 64-year-old nurse said unlike Ghana, the United States presents opportunity for both aged and young ones regardless of age to pursue their dreams.

“In the United States, one of the greatest things is that opportunity is there for everybody at what they want. I see 60-year-old people going for their high school and secondary school certification. It does not matter the age so long as you can avail yourself,” the veteran actor stated.

Nathaniel Banini featured in many movies like Step Dad, Who Killed Nancy?, Harvest at 17, Suzzy, Ghost Tears, The Schemers, Twisted Fate, Jennifer, Child at 6:30pm, A Stab in the Dark and Baby Thief, Omama, Jewels, Expectations etc.

Other movies include the Returnee (1995) and The Family Man (1997).
