Epixode, the Ghanaian dancehall recording artist who doubles as a creative director and painter, has said that his music almost got him in trouble with certain unknown faces in the corridors of power.
Epixode just like several musicians including Fela Kuti, Bobi Wine, Falz, etc have used their music as a tool for social commentary and activism.
In his controversial “Wahala Dey” single which was released in 2019, the Dancehall Act expresses his thoughts and feelings on issues affecting the country while tackling the government for its inability to solve the issues it was bedevilled with.
Speaking in an interview on Daybreak Hitz, the dancehall/highlife performer opened up about the challenges he faced after releasing his song “Wahala Dey.”
“There were times I got threatening text messages and calls telling me to be careful of the kind of songs I churn out. That was because I dropped ‘Wahala Dey’ – a song tackling governmental issues,” he revealed.
This freedom of expression has come at a cost to him after he was also ordered to stop performing the song during a performance at the National Theatre.

“I remember performing ‘Wahala Dey’ at an event where government officials were present and my DJ was ordered to stop playing the song,” he cited.
Despite the threats, the “Atia” crooner said he was unfazed and will continue to perform and record music he was passionate about using his platform to raise awareness about social and political issues.
