Ghanaian musical duo of identical twin brothers, Dope Nation have expressed their concerns about their popular hit song, “Gboza,” being nominated in the wrong category.
The group, who also double as producers, made this revelation during their appearance as guests on TV3 New Day.
According to the group, the song is a blend of House music, Afrobeats, and Amapiano and should not be nominated under the Best Afro-pop Song category.
They pointed out that it is essential to research their music properly and understand the various genres it encompasses.
“No! ‘Gboza’ is not an Afro-pop song. As I said, it’s House music fused with Afrobeats and Amapiano. So, when you give me a genre, I think you need to come and research my music,” a member of the group said.
Reiterating the need for proper research, Dope Nation advised the VGMA board and organizers, Charterhouse, to establish a group of producers to launch a nationwide studio tour to understand the music being produced.

“VGMA should establish a team of young producers and experts to go out there and break down the music,” Dope Nation said.
Explaining why they did not raise a protest, just as in the case of Jhay Bad, who was removed from the Best New Artiste category, Dope Nation said it would cast a negative light on them.
“When you come out to say it, you are seen as arrogant or someway,” they pointed out.
