Talented Ghanaian singer Kidi says artistes nominated in ‘Artiste of the Year’ category in award schemes should applaud eventual winners.

Speaking to Cookie Tee on TV3 NewDay, the reigning artiste of the year for the 23rd Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) said all nominated artistes in the category were viable to win because they worked hard and deserved to be in the category.

“I keep saying that if anybody has been nominated in the artiste of the year category it means they have worked hard so it can go to anybody. Just applaud whoever’s time it is as you wait for your time,” he said.

It can be recounted that the singer made a “I will be back” statement awaiting the artiste of the year win last year. However, gospel musician Diana Hamilton was announced winner in the category.

Speaking on this experience, the reigning artiste of the year mentioned that he believed that last year wasn’t the right time to win the artiste of the year award.

“I just believe that last year wasn’t my time to take the artiste of the year award and this year is the time God ordained for me to me. I don’t think I was denied the artiste of the year award last year. Saying delay is not denial is just a saying and doesn’t mean I was literally denied. I keep talking about times and seasons. If it’s not your time it isn’t your time.”

“It was quite obvious the tie was between Blacko and I. The feeling was tensed and nervous at the final mentioning,” he revealed.

Kidi beat Black Sherif, King Promise, Kuami Eugene, Sarkodie and Joe Mettle to emerge winner in the category.

The Golden Boy added that he is working on more projects and bangers and that he is not under pressure in as much as he has been announced artiste of the year.

The Lynx Entertainment signee expressed his appreciation to all for their support throughout his musical journey and for his win as artiste of the year, adding that, it is enough motivation to keep working harder.

“Knowing that I am the newest artiste of the year. I feel like t hasn’t dawned on me because there is still a lot of thoughts running through my mind. Unfortunately, VGMA is not politics that I’ve to wait four years to start again. I’m just super grateful for the support and humbled by it and its motivation to keep working harder.

Kidi won big for the night. He didn’t only win the artiste of the year award but also walked away with the Vodafone Most Popular with his “Touch It”, Reggae Dancehall Song of the year with his “Touch It”, Album of the Year with his Golden Boy and Afrobeat Artiste of the Year.
