People shouldn’t think I can’t survive without beefs – Shatta Wale

Dancehall artiste Shatta Wale has shot down perceptions that his career hinges on always beefing with colleague musicians. The musician, who has seen his fair share of beefs with artistes in the Ghanaian music industry, has stressed that he made more money when he was not beefing any artiste. Over the years, the ‘My Level’ hitmaker has beefed with the likes of Samini, Stonebwoy, Sarkodie and Yaa Pono. His constant attacks on his fellow musicians have prompted many to conclude that he regularly courts controversy and beefs to be relevant in the music space. Reacting to the perception in an interview on Anigye Mmre on Onua FM with Christian Agyei Frimpong on Thursday, Shatta Wale said his career flourishes without beefs. “Why do people think that [if I don’t beef] I can’t make money,” he quizzed and added that, “people shouldn’t see me that if there is no beef,” he can’t survive. The dancehall act noted that his beef with Samini, for example, “was one of the greatest beefs I have had in my life” but Samini did not see the business side of it. Shatta Wale lamented that “we are fighting ourselves every time…we are always fighting for titles and positions.” He further stressed that fighting for titles is not helping the industry grow.
