Over 11 million SIM cards to be blocked if they aren’t registered by end of May – NCA warns

SIM Cards

The National Communications Authority (NCA) has served notice that about 11 million unregistered SIM cards are going to be blocked.

The Director-General of the NCA, Joe Anokye said the subscribers have up to the end of May this year to register.

He stated that the mass SIM registration for existing SIMs is coming to a close  however there are a good number of SIM cards that have not been registered.

“One of the things to note is that active mass SIM registration for existing SIMs is coming to a close and as mentioned earlier, we have about 11 million SIMs which are yet to begin the registration process, these subscribers have up to the end of May 2023 to complete their SIM registration or have their SIMs deactivated from the network,” he said a press briefing in Accra on Wednesday April 26.

The Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications earlier asked subscribers of unregistered SIMs to do so.

“Subscribers with Ghana cards can avoid this inconvenience by completing stage 2 (the biometric capture) of the registration process,” the chamber said in a statement.
