One dead, another in critical condition after violent clash at Ahwiaa

One person has been confirmed dead following a violent clash between some Zongo youth in Ahwiaa and indigenes of the town in the Ashanti region. Several others sustained various degrees of injuries. Some properties have also been destroyed as a result of the clash. A joint police-military team has been deployed to the area to avert reprisals from the feuding groups. Scores of residents  from both sides have been arrested by the Ashanti regional police in connection with the clash. Residents confirmed a longstanding rivalry between the two groups. They could not however tell what might have triggered the latest clash Monday morning that led to the death of one after sustaining severe machete wounds. Another person is in a critical condition at the Ankaase Methodist hospital. Commercial activities came to a halt in the community with most schools closing at 12 noon for fear of being attacked. Meanwhile, the municipal chief executive for Kwabre East, Nana Osei Assibey Bonsu said efforts are being made to resolve the longstanding feud. This is the second time the two groups have engaged in violent clash in just a month. By Abubakar Ibrahim |editors.3news.com | Ghana
